چکیده
This work proposes a stochastic multiscale computational framework for damage modelling in 3D woven composite laminates, by considering the random distribution of manufacturing-induced imperfections. The proposed method is demonstrated to be accurate, while being simple implement and requiring modest resources. In this approach, limited number cross-sectional views obtained from micro-computed tomography (µCT) are used obtain two key defects, namely waviness voids. fed into progressive model predict response three-dimensional (3D) orthogonal composites. accuracy was performing series finite element simulations un-notched notched tensile tests (having different hole sizes) resin-infused thermoplastic (Elium®) Excellent correlation achieved between experiments simulations. demonstrates effectiveness model. successfully captured nature responses (ultimate strength stiffness), modes (matrix fibre failure), initiation propagation transverse cracks composites, consistent with experimental observation. presented paper can guide design optimization textile structures.

Finite Element - Based Strength Prediction for Notched and Mechanically Fastened Woven Fabric Composites
A literature review has been carried out relating to the damage and fracture behaviour of composite laminates based on woven fabric reinforcement containing a stress raiser in the form of either a circular hole or of a mechanically fastened joint – the tensile failure modes in these two types of problem are very similar. Closed form and finite element based approaches that enable the stress dis...

In 1966, Golomb showed that any polyomino which tiles a rectangle also tiles a larger copy of itself. Although there is no compelling reason to expect the converse to be true, no counterexamples are known. In 3 dimensions, the analogous result is that any polycube that tiles a box also tiles a larger copy of itself. In this note, we exhibit a polycube (a ‘notched cube’) that tiles a larger copy...

متن کاملRecent advancements in mechanical characterisation of 3D woven composites
Three dimensional (3D) woven composites have attracted the interest of academia and industry thanks to their damage tolerance characteristics and automated fabric manufacturing. Although much research has been conducted to investigate their out-of-plane “through thickness” properties, still their in-plane properties are not fully understood and rely on extensive experimentation. To date, the li...
متن کاملMultiscale cardiac modelling reveals the origins of notched T waves in long QT syndrome type 2.
The heart rhythm disorder long QT syndrome (LQTS) can result in sudden death in the young or remain asymptomatic into adulthood. The features of the surface electrocardiogram (ECG), a measure of the electrical activity of the heart, can be equally variable in LQTS patients, posing well-described diagnostic dilemmas. Here we report a correlation between QT interval prolongation and T-wave notchi...
